This year, the Faculty of Environmental Design (EVDS) observes its 35th year, and the University of Calgary marks its 40th anniversary. The Faculty of Environmental Design and the Canadian Architectural Archives (Information Resources) are pleased to announce a symposium celebrating the diverse and successful career of the distinguished University of Calgary architecture professor Dr. Michael McMordie. The symposium takes place from Friday, October 6, 2006 to Saturday, October 7, 2006 at the University of Calgary, and will include panel discussions, keynote presentations, receptions and an evening of jazz music. The panel discussions will focus on Architectural Conservation & Heritage, and Modern Canadian Architecture.
Dr. Michael McMordie joined the University of Calgary in 1974, where he taught architectural history for many years, was Architecture Program Director (1979-82), and Dean of the Faculty of General Studies (1990-98). Dr. McMordie, an expert on Canadian architecture, was instrumental in establishing the Canadian Architectural Archives at the University of Calgary — a collection that houses the documents of many notable Canadian practices. He has published widely and received numerous national awards for his contributions to the study and preservation of Canadian architecture.
