DIFICA wins award for luxury department store chain Barneys New York
Ædifica has been honoured in New York at the prestigious Retail Store of the Year competition for the design of the Barneys New York co-op store in Brooklyn. The project achieved the highest award – Retail Store of the Year – in addition to taking first place in the Soft Lines (5,000 to 15,000 square feet) and Fitting Room categories.
The competition, organized by the American magazine Chain Store Age, also spotlighted the design quality of another of the firm’s projects: SAQ Signature. This initiative earned the firm first place in the Specialty Food category. The design, a co-creation by Montreal firms Ædifica and Sid Lee and the SAQ’s design department, has won two international awards. Last December, SAQ Signature won first place in the Retail Design Institute’s International Store Design Awards competition in the Specialty Food Store (3,001 to 5,000 square feett) category.
Ædifica has also distinguished itself nationally by winning a Gold Award in the Temporary or Portable category at the Canada-wide Design Exchange Awards 2010 for its MUVBOX project, and its new offices, in the process of obtaining LEED-CI certification, were honoured by Intérieurs-Ferdie with the “Offices Over 20,000 square feet” prize.
As well, on February 2, the firm was awarded the Sustainable Building/Green Building prize in the Concours Énergia, a competition highlighting energy management excellence in Quebec, for the 4100 Molson Technopole Angus project, a LEED-certified office building. This project was selected from among 44 candidates across the province.
