Diamond Schmitt Architects is pleased to announce the expansion of its ownership, design and management teams with the appointment of new Principals, Associates and a Director.
Elevated from Senior Associate to Principal are Duncan Higgins and Jennifer Mallard. Advancing to Senior Associate are Joe Troppmann and Gary Watson. Newly appointed Associates are Duncan Bates, Steve Bondar, Dennis Giobbe, Martin Kristensen and Diana Saragosa.
“These talented architects have contributed their expertise to a wide range of projects,” said Donald Schmitt, Principal, Diamond Schmitt Architects. “And these promotions acknowledge the breadth of experience and design depth in our studio as we continue to grow our practice.”
Mr. Higgins is leading the team in delivering a new Collection Conservation Centre for Ingenium, formerly the Canadian Science and Technology Museum, in Ottawa, and guiding the renewal of Holy Blossom Temple and School in Toronto.
Ms. Mallard has overseen both phases of the National Arts Centre rejuvenation project in Ottawa and is currently working on projects at Humber College and York Woods Library and Theatre, both in Toronto.
Newly appointed Senior Associate Joe Troppmann is on the design team for the mixed-use redevelopment of Mirvish Village in Toronto. Previous projects include the repurposing of a heritage building in St. Catharines for Brock University.
Mr. Watson is working on the PwC/YMCA Tower, a centrepiece of Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, as well the conversion to a student residence of a former hotel in Montreal. He champions research and development of digital technologies that are transforming how buildings are designed and constructed.
Among the newly appointed Associates, Mr. Bates is working on Waterworks, a mixed-use residential, retail and community-use building with a significant heritage preservation component in downtown Toronto.
Mr. Bondar is on the team for the new LiUNA Local 183 corporate headquarters in Vaughan as well as a lab design for the Michener Institute in Toronto.
Mr. Giobbe is currently on the Undergraduate Life Sciences Teaching Labs at UBC in Vancouver and working on a Master Plan for the Toronto French School.
Mr. Kristensen is working on the York University Markham campus project and the Advanced Manufacturing Program in Winnipeg for the National Research Council.
Ms. Saragosa is project architect for the University of Toronto Schools (UTS) project.
A new Director was also appointed. Jeanette Parker assumes the new title, Director of Knowledge Management, responsible for promoting a culture of knowledge sharing and collaboration within the firm.
Diamond Schmitt Architects is based in Toronto with studios in Vancouver and New York City. With the latest round of appointments, the firm comprises 22 Principals, 31 Associates and architectural and support staff for a total of 250 people.
