Designing Safe Spaces: DXTalks in Toronto on March 5
On Tuesday, March 5, ahead of International Women’s Day, (Design Exchange) DX hosts an important and insightful DXTalks conversation with architect Janna Levitt of LGA Architectural Partners, Mohini Datta-Ray, Executive Director at NYWS, Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam, and Shannon Holness for a conversation on how design and innovation can co-create thoughtful, safe, and accessible spaces for people experiencing violence. Elizabeth Pagliacolo, executive editor at Azure magazine, will moderate.
Violence against women is a local and international crisis. According to the United Nations Development Programme, globally, one out of three women experiences violence in her lifetime. In Canada, the statistic is identical: one in three Canadians said they had experienced abuse before the age of 15. What’s more, we know that it has a disproportionate impact on women of colour, Indigenous women, and LGBTQ2 and gender non-conforming people.
How can we apply design thinking to initiatives that address gender-based violence and offer inclusive and safe environments?
The DXTalks event will take place on Tuesday, March 5, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. General admission is $12.50, while DX members are invited to email firstname.lastname@example.org to obtain the member rate. General admission tickets are now available via DX at this link.
Design Exchange is a not-for-profit institution funded by its members and donors. The organization is dedicated to providing educational and entertaining design experiences.
