Designed in ChinaNOT Made in China

China is very much in the news and the Olympics were a good demonstration of the design capabilities of this fast growing nation. All eyes are on China, and more so on the design community, which in its quiet and gentle way is changing the face of the country.

IIDEX/NeoCon Canada 2008 is pleased to host a delegation of top interior designers from China, and Pierre Lo, Interior Architect (IFDA, ICIAD) and one of China’s most highly respected designerd, will lead a presentation entitled “Designed in China NOT Made in China” on Thursday, September 25th at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto.

Lo is the Design Director of M Design and as an interior architect is known for innovative space planning, furniture and lighting design, and colour for commercial and residential interiors. By integrating aesthetics, ergonomics and state-of-the-art technology, he creates seamless environments specifically tailored to the work/lifestyles of his clients.

His presentation and the experiences of the delegation will provide an intimate look at the design industry in China. The presentation will also explore the cultural, historical and social influences on design, the obstacles interior designers face in China, some unique interior types, and a showcase of the creative works of ten top interior designers from China.

As a champion and chief promoter of interior design professionalism in China, Lo has for the past ten years motivated Chinese designers to engage in creativity, innovation, originality and personality in their work. With his deep understanding of global design trends and his enthusiasm for his country’s immense talent, he was able to unite other design disciplines in Hong Kong to negotiate with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to set up a permanent Design Centre in Hong Kong in order to promote the design industry.

Lo has garnered numerous accolades and professional distinctions and awards. His most recent initiative was the launch of ic@ward 2008 THE RING AWARD for Interior Design excellence, on which ARIDO president Allan Guinan served as part of the international panel of judges. The award will be presented at the 2008 Guangzhou Design Week a leading trade show and showcase of China’s design aesthetic.
