Design Week 2005: Architects, Landscape Architects, City Planners, Engineers, Interior Designers, Graphic Designers
Design is all around us. From our homes to the buildings where we work, from product brochures to billboards, from public parks to roads and bridges, the world around us has been shaped and molded for both function and beauty. Much of what we see in the world has been created by applied design professionals.
Design Week has been established to illustrate the importance and impact of applied design in our daily lives. From November 21-26, a series of events takes place in Saskatoon, including the Premier’s Awards of Excellence in Design followed by the Premier’s Awards Banquet. Special events and activities are programmed for the Mendel Art Gallery a Design Week Open House, a speaker series, a symposium on modern prairie architecture, and a special exhibition entitled Telling Details: The Architecture of Clifford Wiens.
Speakers in the lecture series include Marian Bantjes, who will deliver Learning to Speak: Bringing Graphic Voice to Design Education at 7:30pm on Tuesday, November 22. On Wednesday, November 23, Doug Paterson delivers the Robin Smith Memorial Lecture on Imagining the Local: Citizenship and Regional Identity, followed by Rob Phillips’ Diversity in Engineering on Thursday, November 24.
