Design for Winnipeg’s new airport unveiled

Winnipeg’s new fully-curvilinear airport was unveiled at a public forum on Feburary 23rd. Existing beneath the Prairie sky, the new design is meant to be influenced by the Prairie landscape of Manitoba.

Cesar Pelli and Associates have partnered with Winnipeg’s Stantec Architecture to replace the original airport terminal. The construction cost of the project is estimated at $350-million. The project is expected to begin construction in 2006 and be completed by 2009.

Two key features of the project include a north view of the horizon through a lengthy glazed wall and a combined domestic and international security checkpoint.
