Deadline Approaches: Registration for OAA Building Code Assessments available until April 22

Over 900 members of the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) have already registered for the OAA Building Code Assessments, but space is still available. The Registration form is posted on the OAA web site (www.oaa.on.ca). Download the form, and fax or mail the completed form. If you have already registered, but have not yet received a confirmation notice, please contact the OAA BCDS hotline at 416-449-6898, 1-800-565-2724, or [email protected] Applications for Assessments must be received at the OAA office by April 22. This includes applications that have been sent by mail. There can be no exceptions.

The study guides for the OAA Building Code Assessments were posted to the OAA Web site on April 1, 2005. The study guides list the topics upon which test questions are based, and sample questions were added on April 12. In addition, the study guide contains a list of resources that should be reviewed in preparation for the Assessments.

If you have already accessed the study guides, please note that Parts 10 and 11 of the Ontario Building Code (OBC) have been added as additional resources under the Drawings Components for both the Part 3 and the Part 9 Assessments.

Many OAA members are not aware of the OAA Building Code Designation System (BCDS) and the options they have. The OAA encourages all members to review the OAA BCDS information posted on the OAA web site as soon as possible in order to gain a full understanding of how the BCDS affects them. The OAA BCDS is the OAA’s system that replaces, for architects, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing qualification and registration requirements for designers that are set out in the Ontario Building Code which take effect July 1, 2005. These new code requirements arose from the recommendations of the Building Regulatory Reform Advisory Group (BRRAG) in 2000, and were enabled by the “Bill 124 amendments” to the Building Code Act, 1992 in 2003.

If you have questions regarding the OAA Building Code Designation System (BCDS), you can call the hotline Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at 416-449-6898, 1-800-565-2724, or e-mail your question to: [email protected]
