Cover & Spread: Selections from the Canadian Architect Image Collection
The official opening of this exhibition takes place on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 6:30pm in the Paul H. Cocker Gallery in the Architecture Building at Ryerson University. Cover & Spread features architectural photography and provides a contemporary look at the Canadian Architect magazine image collection. The collection was donated to the Ryerson University’s Special Collections in 2009, making thousands of negatives, transparencies and photographs taken for publication in Canadian Architect accessible to students, researchers and the public. The collection is a significant record of Canadian architecture between the years 1955 and 1990.
The exhibition, which has been developed and produced by students, staff and faculty of Architectural Science at Ryerson, investigates the role and meaning of modernity in postwar Canada. The evocative imagery and graphic design of Canadian Architect is used to profile seven iconic buildings, each of which embodies an aspect of modernity that the curatorial team believes to be relevant to contemporary discourse.
The exhibition is open to all visitors from October 22 to November 14, 2013 on weekdays from 10:00am to 6:00pm.
