City Crossing Winnipeg International Design Competition 2004.
The City of Winnipeg and owners of the buildings at the corners of Portage Avenue and Main Street in Downtown Winnipeg, including the Richardson Building, the Bank of Montreal, TD Centre, MTS, and The Commodity Exchange Tower have announced the City Crossing Winnipeg International Design Competition 2004. The open, single-stage multidisciplinary design competition initiated by the City will treat a site of four blocks defined by the intersection of Portage Avenue and Main Street and include the ground level and the concourse level below grade. The competition seeks a private and public partnership of interests for the redevelopment of the site and its adjacent areas and the city hopes its supporters will help build the winning design for an anticipated construction budget of up to $10 million. Key redevelopment issues will include the enhancement of pedestrian and vehicular connections within the downtown, pedestrian access to buildings and concourse, and historical and cultural roles for the city’s central intersection. Awards for winning entries total $100, 000 and a jury consisting of Robert N. Allsopp, Donald K. Carter, Thomas Fisher, Daniel Friedman and Jane Perdue will announce them on May 3. A public exhibition takes place May 2 to 16. More information is found at www.winnipeg-design-competition.org
