Citadel of Chan Chan competition

Next to the present day city of Trujillo lies the largest architectural evidence of Peru’s archaeological past: Chan Chan. Chan Chan was built by the Chimu or Chimor. The name belongs to a civilization that by the 13th or 14th century had reached its greatest territorial extension covering more than 1,000 kilometres of Peru’s northern coast. The areas surrounding Chan Chan are working-class neighbourhoods. The purpose of the competition is to evaluate the possibility of installing a Beach Lodge that serves not only as an observatory from which to look at the fabulous citadel of Chan Chan, but also to provide temporary lodging for tourists who wish to spend the night by the sea.

This Arquitectum-sponsored competition is open to architects and teams including architects, and the awards are as follows: $5,000 for first place, $2,500 for second place, $1,000 for third place, and nine honourable mentions. The registration deadline is November 15, 2005, and the cost to register is $60; $120 for late registration. The jury is comprised of Raphael Gabrion, Jean-Francois Brecq and David Depoux.
