CannonDesign selected as architects for new student centre at York University

York University and its student body have selected CannonDesign as the architect for the new 150,000-square-foot Student Centre planned for its Keele Campus. The centre will respond to the evolving needs of current and future students and transform the campus.

The Student Centre will become an iconic campus gateway that positions York University at the forefront of student experience. It will feature student focused meeting rooms, individual and group study spaces, areas for recreational activities, commercial space, club offices, administrative support offices and multi-faith prayer rooms. The building will fully exemplify design excellence and innovation.

“CannonDesign is thrilled to be partnering with York University on this dynamic student centre that will enrich the campus,” said Safdar Abidi, CannonDesign’s Education Practice Leader for Ontario and Eastern Canada. “The university’s unwavering commitment to student experience is inspiring and we’re focused on creating a building reflective of that commitment.”

York University, the third-largest university in Canada, hosts 55,000 undergraduate and graduate students as part of a dynamic academic community. The university and its faculty are focused on interdisciplinary learning across its 28 research centres. The university selected CannonDesign from an initial group of more than 30 design firms.
