Canadian Architect sponsors keynotes at IIDEXCanada

Join IIDEXCanada 2014 in welcoming David Mirvish, David Nam of Gehry Partners, and Globe and Mail publisher and CEO Phillip Crawley, who will discuss Mr. Mirvish’s bold new development called Mirvish + Gehry Toronto.

On Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 12:00 noon, these three individuals will engage in an enlightening discussion about the vision for this landmark project; the lengthy process from concept to approval; the iterative approach to the design; and the innovative cultural, commercial and residential public elements of its current form. They will explore the unique synergies between Gehry and Mirvish and their shared commitment to creating, with Mirvish + Gehry Toronto, an important and indelible legacy for the city in which they were born.

David Mirvish, C.M., O. Ont., is a Canadian theatre producer, art collector and entrepreneur that owns and operates four theatres in Toronto. Mirvish Productions, founded by Mirvish in 1986, has produced plays and musicals for these and other venues throughout Canada, on Broadway and in London’s West End. In addition, Mirvish Productions has presented over 500 touring productions in the city of Toronto.

Mirvish operated the David Mirvish Gallery from 1963 to 1978. He continues to collect privately and to lend works to galleries and museums throughout the world. Over 50 years, David and Audrey Mirvish have built a large and important collection of Abstract Expressionist art with a particular focus on the Color Field movement.

Mirvish has most recently launched Mirvish+Gehry Toronto – a project that will see a stretch of Mirvish-owned properties on King Street West transformed into a bold and beautiful mixed-use development, designed by the renowned architect Frank Gehry, that will include a gallery to house the Mirvish art collection, an OCAD University facility, and two residential towers.

Mirvish has been presented with honorary doctorates from Queen’s University, York University, Ryerson University and the University of Toronto. He is the current Chancellor of the University of Guelph.

David Nam received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Cornell University in 1996 and a Master of Architecture degree from Yale University in 2003. Nam joined Gehry Partners in 1996. As a design partner, he has been working directly with Frank Gehry, collaborating on the design of various projects in the office, including project lead on the Mirvish + Gehry project in Toronto.
