With the rising cost of gas, oil and hydro, homeowners are ready to investigate the alternatives. At the first annual Green Energy Home Show on October 1st 2nd, 2005, consumers can examine a full range of energy-efficiency solutions, and learn ways of being powerWISE by bringing Green Energy into their homes.
“People are realizing that energy-efficiency is achievable at home as well as at work,” said Patrick Guran, Chief Energy Conservation Officer for PowerStream, one of the event co-sponsors. “These technologies are both cost-efficient and environmentally friendly. The short-term benefit is financial savings, and the long-term benefit is a healthier future.”
The Green Energy Home Show will take place at the Kortright Centre for Conservation, Canada’s largest renewable energy education facility. Visitors can speak with some of the country’s leading specialists in greening technologies about everything from how to use shading techniques to reduce cooling costs by 10 percent, to reducing hot water bills by as much as 45 – 55 percent through solar hot water systems.
“The amazing thing is that homeowners can take big or incremental steps to improve their home’s efficiency,” said Alex Waters, Manager, Kortright Centre for Conservation. “While full solar and wind energy systems can provide 100 percent of a home’s electricity, even small changes can help to ease the burden of energy costs.”
The Green Energy Home Show is a partnership between Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA), PowerStream, York Region and the City of Vaughan. In addition to the vendors, greening seminars and workshops, Mark Cullen, Canada’s gardening expert, radio host and best selling author, will be on location Saturday, October 1st from 10 am – 11 am to interview conservation experts and to take calls from CFRB Radio listeners. A special tour of three distinctive green technology homes in Hockley Valley is also planned for Sunday, October 2 (pre-registration required; additional fee applicable). The show is open from 10 am – 4 pm on both days. Admission is $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for children.
