Canada Council calls for submissions to Prix de Rome and J.B.C. Watkins awards
The Canada Council for the Arts is accepting submissions for its architecture practice awards until October 5, 2023.
Submissions for the Canada Council for the Arts’ Prix de Rome in Architecture – Professional, Prix de Rome in Architecture – Emerging Practitioners and J.B.C. Watkins Award: Architecture are open until October 5, 2023.
The Canada Council for the Arts grants annual prizes in architecture to acknowledge the accomplishments and promising prospects of architects, professionals, and students at different phases of their architectural careers.
The Prix de Rome in Architecture – Professional is awarded annually to either a practitioner of architecture or an architectural firm who/that has completed their/its first built works and has demonstrated exceptional artistic potential. The prize encourages the development of contemporary architectural practice by supporting the recipients’ travel around the world to develop their skills and their creative practice, and to strengthen their position in the international architecture world.
The Canada Council Prix de Rome in Architecture – Emerging Practitioners is awarded to a recent graduate of a Canadian school of architecture who demonstrates exceptional potential in contemporary architectural design. The prize recipient will have the opportunity to broaden their knowledge of contemporary architecture culture by visiting a selection of works of architecture abroad, and to expand their professional skills through an internship of their choosing at an architectural firm outside of Canada.
As part of a bequest from the estate of the late John B.C. Watkins, the J.B.C. Watkins Award provides fellowships of $5,000 to Canadian architects who are pursuing graduate studies in any country other than Canada, and who are graduates of a Canadian university, postsecondary art institution or training school. Postgraduate schools include postsecondary institutions or training schools, whether or not these are degree-granting institutions.
The deadline for submissions to the three awards programs is October 5, 2023.
