Camrose City Hall celebrated its grand opening on June 5, 2015. A stone’s throw from Camrose’s main street, the new facility was designed by Manasc Isaac Architects of Edmonton, and will provide a new community heart and public plaza to the 17,000-resident city.
The building tells the story of the community. Design references to the community’s history as a railroad settlement and its agrarian economy in contemporary times reflect Camrose’s past, present and future.
Striking features such as abundant natural lighting distinguish the project. A generous four-storey south-facing atrium allows heat to warm visitors during cold Albertan winters, while allowing excess heat to be vented off in the summer through operable windows near the top of the atrium.
The need for a new City Hall has been identified and discussed for over a decade. Ultimately, it was decided that renovations were not viable and a new City Hall was required. The facility will accommodate staff growth over the next 30 years in the Customer Service, Administration, Finance, Corporate Services, and Infrastructure and Planning departments.
