ICOMOS Canada is partnering with Ryerson University and the Ontario Heritage Trust to present a conference on the significance of heritage settings. The theme of the conference is the Significance of Setting Conserving Monuments and Sites in Changing Canadian Cultural Landscapes, which takes place from September 29-October 1, 2005 at Ryerson University in Toronto.
ICOMOS is the Canadian National Committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites. As such, it is the focus of international cultural resources exchange in Canada sharing preservation information and expertise worldwide. Settings are not being preserved in the face of increasing urban growth and pressures. In Canada, there is growing interest in heritage settings together with the development of provincial policies and federal initiatives to address the problem.
The Historic Places Initiative, Ontario Ministry of Culture, is pleased to sponsor a pre-Congress workshop on Thursday, September 29 at Historic Fort York.
Submissions for congress papers are welcome, and they can be presented in either English or French. Presentations will be limited to 20 minutes. Include a cover letter (one page), an abstract (no longer than 250 words), and a resum (one page) and submit by June 30, 2005.
