Within the urban landscape there are unused buildings and structures, unique industrial infrastructure and buildings of historical significance, sitting empty, undervalued in a state of unused limbo. Should they be torn down or should they be repurposed? This exhibition looks at the adaptive reuse of existing buildings and structures and the implications that reuse has on surrounding neighbourhoods and communities. Three
Toronto architecture firms – DTAH, Kongats Architects, and unit a architecture inc. – and installation artist Gareth Lichty have been invited to create new installations that explore the adaptive reuse of existing buildings and structures within the urban landscape. They examine the diverse implications it has on neighbourhoods and the surrounding community.
BORN AGAIN: The Repurposed City runs from Friday, July 20 through Sunday, September 16, 2012. An opening reception takes place on Thursday, July 19, 2012 from 6:00pm to 10:00pm at Harbourfront Centre, located at 235 Queens Quay West in Toronto. Admission to the reception and exhibitions is free.
