Beyond the Ivory Tower: What Should Universities do for their Cities?
This urban design panel discussion is taking place in Winnipeg on Thursday, September 19, 2013, and features jurors from the Visionary (re)Generation Open International Design Competition.
The event is moderated by University of Manitoba President Dr. David Barnard, and welcomes a panel of urban design professionals to tackle the question of what universities should do for their cities. The invited speakers are all members of the jury for the Visionary (re)Generation Open International Design Competition, and are as follows: Julie Snow, Principal of Julie Snow Architects Inc. in Minneapolis; Tobias Micke, Landscape Architect, and Founder and Partner of ST raum a. in Berlin; Ovide Mercredi, Lawyer, former National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, and member of the Misipawistik Cree Nation; and Jennifer Keesmaat, Chief Planner and Executive Director at the City of Toronto.
A public reception kicks off the evening at 6:30pm, followed by a panel discussion from 7:00pm to 8:30pm in the Robert B. Schultz Theatre at St. John’s College, University of Manitoba. The event is free and open to all members of the public.
