Barry Johns voted Chancellor elected to the RAIC College of Fellows

Following an election process, Barry Johns, FRAIC, has been voted Chancellor of the RAIC College of Fellows.

“My interest in serving as Chancellor is fuelled by a passion for architecture and a conviction that the College has an essential role to play in the promotion and development of our profession,” said Johns. “The College of Fellows represents the collective wisdom of our profession. I look forward to this opportunity to strengthen the Foundation and RAIC initiatives.”

Since 1981, Barry Johns and his firm Barry Johns Architecture Limited have developed a local and international reputation as an innovative design practice – with 48 design awards from around the world to date, including an Olympic Gold Medal for the Arts and the Governor General’s Award for Architecture. From his early years with Arthur Erickson to present day, his passion in championing the role of architecture in society has led to a multifaceted career that spans private practice, teaching, public lectures, architectural juries and public service on volunteer fund raising and professional Boards across Canada. A selection of his firm’s important work was published in the monograph entitled Barry Johns Architects by TUNS Press in 2000.

Johns will be inducted as Chancellor at the College of Fellows Convocation on May 26, 2011 at Simon Fraser University’s Djavad Mowafaghian Cinema in Vancouver during the Architecture Canada| RAIC | AIBC Festival of Architecture.
