Art Moves: Vancouver Art Gallery’s Art Auction

Art can move hearts, souls, beliefs and understanding. Vancouver Art Gallery’s major charitable event, Art Auction 2014, hopes to raise $1 million on the evening of February 15, 2014 in support of exhibitions and educational programs at the Gallery. Through the tremendous generosity of distinguished artists, private galleries and top collectors from around the world, more than 70 outstanding works of art have been donated to this significant fundraising endeavour.

Art patrons and artists will converge at the Vancouver Art Gallery for this gala fundraiser, beginning with a live auction at 6:00pm, followed by dinner and a silent auction.

This event co-chairs are Lisa Turner and Bruce Wright, with Michael O’Brian serving as Honorary Chair. This event has also received generous support from the event’s Sponsor, Dixon Mitchell Investment Counsel, and Visionary Partner, Michael O’Brian Family Foundation.

Among the works in the auction will be a painting by celebrated visual artist and writer Douglas Coupland whose solo exhibition everywhere is anywhere is anything is everything will be held at the Gallery later this year from May 31 to September 1. This work, titled The Thought of Seeing Images of the World 100 Years After I Die is Intolerable. I Don’t Want to Know What is Lost and What is Kept (2011), combines the traditional media of painting with the current technologies of QR code. The artwork that holds the highest estimated value is T’samuus (Sea Monster, 2013) by artist Robert Davidson, a magnificent aluminum sculpture personally contributed by the artist.
