Art and Urban Change in Contemporary China

In this lecture – part of the Contemporary Chinese Art Discussion Series taking place at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto, James Poborsa will explore the problem of urban change in contemporary China, as rapid economic development has radically altered the urban environment. Up for discussion are artists whose work documents the rapidly disappearing historical neighbourhoods of cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, as well as the work of artists who probe the interrelated issues of progress, development, culture and change.

In this series of informal talks, specialists explore topics in contemporary art in culture. As this discussion is a complementary event to the current exhibition Ai Weiwei: According to What, the focus is suitably on contemporary art in China.

The lecture takes place at 7:00pm on Wednesday, August 28 in the Weston Family Learning Centre at the Art Gallery of Ontario, located at 317 Dundas Street West in Toronto.
