Warming Huts v. 2013: An Art + Architecture Competition on Ice opening reception and presentations

Taking place on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the Centre Space of the John A. Russell Building at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, the Warming Huts v. 2013, a reception kicks off the this festive wintry event at 6:30pm, followed by presentations at 7:00pm.

Warming Huts v.2013: An Art + Architecture Competition on Ice, was an open competition, endorsed by the Manitoba Association of Architects. Proposals for the competition were all submitted online at

From over 100 entries this year, jury members selected designs that best “push the envelope of design, craft and art.” Three huts were chosen from the open submission process, one from a separate University of Manitoba competition and one is being designed by award-winning architect Atelier Big City from Montreal.

Presenters Include: Atelier Big City (Big City); Aamodt Plumb Architects (Smokehouse); Group Han Associates (Woolhaus); Liz Wreford-Taylor, Colin Grover and Marcelle Lucier (Hygge House); Stantec (Sonus Loci); Luca Roncoroni (Ice Sculptor); and the University of Manitoba Environmental Design Studio (Weave Wave).
