Teknion Corporation announced that its Optos Curved Wall and fx Workplace Accessories Collection were among the winners in the Best of NeoCon 2009 design competition for contract furnishing products held during NeoCon at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. In addition, Teknion partnered with Powermat to launch its Powermat wireless technology surface in North America. The Powermat surface earned top prize as the Best of Competition.

“We are extremely pleased with our North American introduction of Powermat’s technology to the office furniture industry at NeoCon, and our partnership with the Powermat company,” said David Feldberg, President and CEO. “Winning Best of Competition and Best of NeoCon Gold in the Technology Support category is a great honor for both companies. We look forward to providing various wireless power applications in the contract furniture industry with Powermat.”

Powermat is a wireless technology system that simplifies a user’s power requirements in the work environment. It profiles any electronic device’s power needs with which it makes contact, providing power only as needed, and only when the device and the surface are in immediate proximity.

Teknion’s Optos Curved Wall received a Silver Best of NeoCon in the moveable walls category. The new curved wall feature of Optos extends the capabilities of this full-height architectural wall with frameless glass-to-glass connections. Optos Curved Wall is innovative in that it accommodates two planning options. The first involves faceted glass modules that vary in width and angle to conform to the desired radius. The second option incorporates new corners that allow the angle of the wall to change after the corner that can be used with straight Optos or the new faceted modules.

Teknion’s new fx Workplace Accessories Collection was awarded a Silver Best of NeoCon in the Office Accessories category. Created by industrial designer Carl Gustav Magnusson, fx responds to today’s emerging workplace trends toward more compact work environments, the need for an individual’s personalization of space and the support of advanced workplace technology. fx expands upon a standard workplace accessories offering and adds new functionality to modern work environments.

“Despite challenging economic conditions, Teknion continues to move forward designing

new products that address new ways that people work, support new technologies and create healthier, greener work environments,” said Feldberg. “This is the third consecutive year that a Best of NeoCon jury has recognized innovative new Teknion products with these prestigious awards. Last year we earned Gold for the District furniture system and Synapse wood guest chair while our Marketplace worktable and Optos architectural wall received Gold and Silver, respectively, in 2007.”

In addition to the Optos Curved Wall and fx accessories, Teknion displayed other innovative new products in showroom #1048 during NeoCon, held from June 15 to 17. These included the W/R/S Wall Rail System, three PolyBamboo seating fabrics and three new lines of office seating – the Marini Executive Task Chair, Visio Task Chair and Sitara Side Chair. In addition, Teknion previewed the xchange line of lounge seating designed by well-known designer Michael Vanderbyl, and the dna collection of mobile, height-adjustable tables and collaborative lounge seating by Acer Design A/S of Bogense, Denmark.

Celebrating its 20th year, the Best of NeoCon competition honours new commercial interiors products introduced to the market in 45 categories ranging from Alternative Office to Workplace Technologies. A total of 280 products were entered in 40 product and furnishing categories in the competition, sponsored by Contract magazine, Merchandise Mart Properties, Inc., the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) and
