The 2003 Commerce Design Montreal’s SAQ People’s Choice Award was presented to interior designer Jacques Bouchard’s Htel Le St-James in Old Montreal. The scheme gives the public the opportunity to vote for one of the 20 Jury Grand Prize winners in the 2003 Commerce Design Montreal competition. Public participation in 2003 reached a voting total of 38, 500, up 800% since the award was introduced. The hotel is the third consecutive contestant to win the distinction from Old Montreal. The high-end small hotel was inserted into a heritage bank and includes a hall of tellers’ wickets converted to the main lobby. The former boardroom and bank president’s office have been converted into suites while maintaining their original configuration and architectural detail.
