Ryerson University’s Masters of Architecture class invites architects, academics, industry professionals, and students to come together for an evening of discussion and debate this Wednesday, February 3rd at 6:30pm at the historic Berkeley Church at 315 Queen Street East. The evening will explore the metamorphisis of the industry and the effect that has had on the architect.
We are witnessing the territories shift within the field of architecture and the exploration of unchartered domains. This shift demarcates the unfolding potentials that introduce new possibilities with great optimism. As such, a new generation of architects will have to rediscover roles and values of architecture in order to engage with these changes. Current architectural pedagogy addresses some of these concerns, however, a great deal of learning happens in practice.
re:practice brings together a panel of emerging architects to open a direct dialogue within the discourse and discipline of architecture. These are alternative practices that have stepped beyond the boundaries of the past and are re-imagining and re:practicing the profession.
In this Symposium we ask: What does the future hold for the agents of design? How will architects exercise their roles in identifying and addressing the emerging needs of society? Is the architect of the future a designer, a leader, an activist or all of the above?
Guest speakers include Lola Sheppard from Lateral Office, Helena Grdadolnik from Workshop Architecture and Tudor Radulescu from KANVA Architecture. The event will be moderated by Michael McClelland from ERA Architects Inc.
