Wallpaper* Magazine has selected 30 young design offices from around the world to be included in their annual Architects Directory. This year each practice was asked to create their ideal model home that would be efficient, flexible, affordable and innovative, all conforming to a maximum size of 100 square metres. According to Wallpaper*, the design of the house demonstrates the core principles of the practice’s architectural approach.
With a nod to vernacular form, Toronto-based Reigo & Bauer’s entry Spec House 03 is meant to stand alone or fit into an existing residential neighbourhood. Described as being “exciting yet approachable,” the use of standard wood framing, finishes and details combined with bespoke elements like walls of glazing and solar-heated water allows for architectural intrigue while keeping construction costs to a minimum.
Reigo & Bauer’s Spec House 03, along with the other 29 model homes will be featured in the August 2009 issue of Wallpaper* and the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam opening September 24, 2009.
