Reel Artists, the Canadian Art Foundation Film Festival, is a celebration of art-related films presented annually in Toronto and Calgary. The festival shares award-winning – and often rare – documentaries about visual art and artists, creating an accessible point of entry for general audiences to consider key personalities and philosophies behind contemporary art.
In Toronto, the Festival runs from February 22-26, 2012, and will launch with the opening night screening and celebration at the TIFF Bell Lightbox on Wednesday, February 22. The celebration features the Canadian premiere of Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present. Director Matthew Akers’s feature-length documentary takes us inside the world of one of the most compelling artists of our time as she prepares for a career-defining retrospective at New York’s Museum of Modern Art. See this intimate portrait of a radical performance artist who makes no distinction between life and art. Meet the artist, director and producers at this special presentation.
In Calgary, the Festival runs from March 24-27, 2012. Details of the Calgary Festival will be available at a later date.
