RAIC Emerging Practitioners (RAIC EP), a newly launched advocacy group targeting interns and other emerging practitioners, has announced the launch of a Webinar on the National Building Code of Canada. This course reflects the RAIC EP’s objective of supporting the path to licensure as part of the larger picture of experience gained through completion of the IAP Program’s requirements.
Working in partnership with Jensen Hughes Consulting Canada Ltd, this one-day course will be offered in French and English. Jensen Hughes is an international Code and Fire Protection Consulting firm, with offices throughout the world and with seven offices in Canada. Their team of seasoned professionals have hands-on experience in their specialties, and Jensen Hughes’ participation in industry and regulatory organizations gives them unique insight into both the Code requirements as well as the intention of the Code. They developed this course three years ago and have been refining and teaching it since.
The content of this course reflects the “ExAC General And Specific Objectives, 2016” : Code Research items 5.1, 5. 2, 5.3, 5,4 and 5.5. In summary, this session will cover how to utilize and go through each Volume of the NBC, how to apply each Part, and the application of alternative solutions; followed by a lengthier discussion pertaining to the understanding and application of Part 3, Fire and Life Safety.
English : Saturday, September 24th, broadcast from Toronto
French : Saturday, October 1st , broadcast from Montreal
Please visit the website ( www.raicep.ca ) for registration and the Canada-wide schedule by time zone. A limited number of attendees will have the option of live attendance at the venue from which the Webinar will be broadcast on a first come, first served basis.
Registration for this full-day seminar is $275. In the case of interns, graduates and Syllabus students, this rate includes 2017 RAIC membership.
Feedback forms will be sent to each individual after the session, to gain an understanding of how the speaker performed, and to inquire about any areas that the attendees would have liked to spend more time on, or if any additional items could be incorporated into the future growth of the Webinar. Each individual would be awarded a certificate for the completion of the Webinar session, of which, if applicable, could be used towards their designated association education credits.
The ExAC is an experience based exam. It is the practical application of knowledge acquired through education and readings that will support examination success. Taking this course without applying the knowledge gained through practice may not result in examination success.
This course is organized by the RAIC Emerging Practitioners (RAIC EP) in partnership with Jensen Hughes. Neither the Webinar, nor the content of the course, have been reviewed or endorsed by the CExAC (Committee for the Examination for Architects in Canada)”
