RAIC College of Fellows announces 2010 Honourary Fellows

The RAIC College of Fellows has announced that the following recently named Honourary Fellows will be recognized during the RAIC – SAA Festival of Architecture to be held from June 23-26, 2010 in Saskatoon.

 

Manfredi Nicoletti, Hon. FRAIC and architect, is a full professor of Architectural Composition at the Rome La Sapienza University, Vice President of the International Academy of Architecture, member of the Academy of Architecture of Russia, member of the International Academy of Architecture of Moscow and member of the Academy of Architecture of France. Nicoletti received the title of “Commandeur dans l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres” from the Minister of Culture of France and has been twice awarded with the Dedalo Minosse Prize. His professional experience embraces many aspects of urban and architectural design, especially of public buildings, carried out in countries around the world, where they were integrated with those of specialists in various scientific and technological sectors. He has received the International Award of WREN (World Renewable Energy Network) and is the founder of a course on Ecosystemic Architecture at the University of Rome. Nicoletti will speak as College of Fellows Convocation Keynote Speaker, June 24, 2010, 8 p.m. at Convocation Hall, University of Saskatchewan.

 

Sunand Prasad, Hon. FRAIC and architect, is a founding partner of the highly regarded architectural practice Penoyre & Prasad and was President of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) 2007-2009. He led the RIBA to engage strongly with Climate Change across all its activities and was named as one of the most influential environmentalists in the UK. Prasad has played a central role in the design and delivery of Penoyre & Prasad’s 300-plus projects, guiding the design philosophy and the design development of projects resulting in more than 60 awards. His experience encompasses education, healthcare, housing, the arts, commercial development, sustainable design and master planning, which he has summarized in the essays in Transformations: The Architecture of Penoyre & Prasad, published in 2007. A founder commissioner of the Commission for the Built Environment (CABE) from 1999-2006, he launched its highly regarded Enabling Programme and later led its work on Skills. He is currently one of the London Mayors Design Advisors. Having studied at the University of Cambridge, The Architectural Association and the Royal College of Art, he continues to teach, lecture, broadcast and write extensively on architecture and the built environment. Prasad will address delegates as Foundation Luncheon Speaker at noon on June 25, 2010 at the TCU Arts & Convention Centre.

 

Christian Ouellet, Hon. FIRAC and architect, sits as a Bloc Québécois Member of Parliament for Brome-Missisquoi in Quebec. A pioneer in solar, bioclimatic techniques and green architecture since 1973, he has taken on the very public role of ardent promoter of healthy buildings, instituting several new energy efficiency policies and sustainable buildings. Ouellet has a Masters from the University of Manchester and is a member of the Order of Quebec Architects. In addition to being an architect, he was a professor at the Université de Montréal School of Architecture and lectured at the Université du Québec à Montréal. He served as the Chair of the Solar Energy Society of Canada and co-founded Québec Solaire, and has sat as Chair of the National Committee on the Environment and Sustainable Development.
