MADE launches new Canadian designs in their annual exhibition entitled Radiant Dark. This year, the theme is The Devil is the Details, and the show presents a survey of the sometimes unnoticed or hidden things – the details and challenges – that effectively sweeten, strengthen, surprise, and elevate an idea from starting point to fully resolved design. MADE curates and presents new Canadian designs focused on such details.
Featured participants in Radiant Dark this year include: Matthew Agostinis, Shana Anderson, Evan Bare, Brothers Dressler, Suzanne Carlsen, Heidi Earnshaw, Jeremy Hatch, Yvonne Ip, Pia Israelsson, Ryan Legassicke, Jade Rude, Fiona Lim-Tung and Kristen Lim-Tung, Orest Tataryn, Christy Thompson, Toma Objects, Annie Tung and Brad Turner, Anneke van Bommel, Wheeler Studio, Jean Willoughby and Lizz Ashton, and Mazzie Design.
The exhibition runs from January 26-29, 2012 at a new location this year: 859 Dundas Street West in Toronto, which is 4 doors east of MADE. Exhibition hours are daily from 12:00 noon until 6:00pm, with a public opening reception taking place on Saturday, January 28, 2012 from 3:00pm until 7:00pm.
Additionally, MADE presents Walk & Talk, a free and informal guided tour of the exhibit. Five participating design studios discuss their work and practice on Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 1:00pm to 1:45pm. Walk & Talk features the following designers: Evan Bare, Yvonne Ip, Ryan Legassicke, Jean Willoughby and Lizz Aston.
MADE is both studio and showroom operated by Julie Nicholson and Shaun Moore. The partnership engages in the design of objects and interiors, installations, commissions, collaborations and curatorial projects. Their showroom is committed to the representation of compelling functional works made in Canada. Fuelled by creative collaboration, their curatorial and design practice reflects original ideas and thoughtful approach. Through a consistent combination of quality with concept, they aim to engage discussion and dissemination surrounding function, aesthetics and Canadian identity.
