Pop Life: Art in a Material World

June 2, 2010
by Canadian Architect

This exhibition at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa is a North American exclusive that runs from June 11 to September 19, 2010.

Comprising more than 250 paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, videos, installations, multiples and other ephemera from contemporary art superstars like Jeff Koons, Keith Haring, Damien Hirst, Martin Kippenberger, Tracey Emin, Maurizio Cattelan,Takashi Murakami, and Richard Prince, the exhibition organized by the Tate Modern in collaboration with the National Gallery of Canada explores how – in the last 25 years – artists followed in Warhol’s footsteps in exploiting advertising and the mass media to build their own brand and become greater than their works. The exhibition also comprises works drawn from the National Gallery of Canada’s collection by Canadian artists who were inspired by that same movement.
