Lighting Architecture Movement Project in Vancouver

Four Vancouver architectural designers have been chosen to participate in the first annual Lighting Architecture Movement Project (LAMP) event, a live design installation exhibition and creative challenge, which will be held at the Woodward’s Atrium in Vancouver commencing on October 3, 2013.  LAMP was created for professional designers to have an opportunity to reimagine their talents in conceptual explorations and have the community connect with architecture and design events.

Starting on Thursday, October 3rd, LAMP will host a one-night private exhibition from 7:00pm to 11:00pm celebrating the designers’ efforts for a ticket price of $15, which can be purchased in advance through the LAMP website. The space will then be open to the public by donation on October 4th and 5th and proceeds will cover the designers’ costs. The private event on October 3rd will offer beer, wine, music, art and entertainment and is open to all ages.

How does LAMP work? The designers receive a thematic word to interpret in their own way. Once allocated a size-specific area in the Woodward’s space, they were offered lighting options to create their own art installation. The designers have three months to conceptualize their design and will have two days to install it in the space. The seasoned design professionals participating in this event are no strangers to the architecture community.

Participants include: Bryn Davidson, co-owner of Lanefab Design/Build; Oliver Neumann, architect and professor at the University of British Columbia; Simon Montgomery, designer at Evoke International Design; and Jorge Siemsen, founder of Jorge Siemsen Architecture & Design from Brazil, now living in Vancouver. You may watch interviews with the designers at www.welovelamp.ca/#%21media/c1x1r.

The Lighting Architecture Movement Project is a temporary group installation that showcases light and form through the lens of architectural design. The creators – Annika Hagen, Nicole Fox and Tyler Greentree – joined forces in the interest of producing interesting and dynamic events that people will remember.

Sponsors who helped them make this event happen include Westbank, Inform Contract, Foscarini, Skyrocket, Millions of Pixels Photography, and Promoter at Heart.
