Ireland’s Cork City Council is holding a Design Ideas Competition for a prominent group of city centre waterfront sites and urban spaces as a part of the Cork 2005 (Capital of Culture) Programme. The competition is being administered by the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI).
The competition is an open one-stage ideas competition for a group of sites and urban spaces on Kyrl’s Quay in Cork. The competition site will provide the catalyst for the renewal of a wider area in the Cornmarket Street / Historic Centre areas of the City Centre. The main aims of the competition are to identify creative options for the redevelopment of this group of sites fronting onto the River Lee, and to promote high quality urban design and architecture in Cork City.
The competition is open to architects, urban designers and landscape architects. First prize is EUR 5000 and other prizes amounting to a total value of EUR 5000 will be awarded at the discretion of the judges.
Competitors are required to submit one A1 size sheet, landscape format and a written report. Registration fee is EUR 100 per entry and is refundable up until 15 February 2005. Once the registration is paid, each competitor receives a user name and password to download the competition information from the RIAI website. The competition information will not be provided in any other format.
