The next event in the Speaker Series at Toronto’s Design Exchange will feature world-renowned designer Karim Rashid on Wednesday, 15 September 2004. The DX is Canada’s design centre, located at 234 Bay Street in the historical Toronto Stock Exchange building.As an industrial designer, Rashid’s work includes products, interiors, fashion, furniture, lighting, and art. He received a Bachelor of Industrial Design in Canada, followed by postgraduate studies in Italy. After seven years of work experience in Toronto at KAN Design, Rashid has been running his own studio in New York City since 1993. Clients include Umbra, Prada, Mikasa, Sony, Shiseido, Giorgio Armani, Issey Miyake and Alessi, among many others. His work on hotels, restaurants and shops can be found in London, Moscow, New York, Cairo, Seoul and Singapore.Rashid’s work has earned him numerous awards and is in the permanent collections of sixteen museums. Publications include I Want to Change the World (Rizzoli, 2001), the International Design Yearbook (Calmann and King, 2003), and Evolution which is to be released in October 2004.Shinan Govani of the National Post will serve as moderator and interviewer for the evening. As with previous evenings, the speaker presentation will be followed by a wine tasting from Wines of France. Each audience member receives a Waterford Crystal glass to keep.
