ULI Toronto, a District Council of the Washington DC-based Urban Land Institute (ULI), has selected a panel of highly respected urban professionals to judge at their inaugural Urban Ideas Competition Awards Ceremony. In recent weeks, visionary proposals were submitted to ULI Toronto with ideas to reconnect the City of Toronto with its waterfront.
The judges will select winners and provide their perspectives to attract thought-provoking and passionate discussions about Toronto’s Waterfront and the potential for creative enhancements based on 13 finalist submissions. This public event will take place at Malaparte at the TIFF Bell Lightbox on April 23, 2014 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.
Paul Bedford, urban mentor and former Chief Planner for the City of Toronto, will participate on the jury panel. He currently serves on the Waterfront Toronto Urban Design Review Panel and is a member of the National Capital Commission among other highly respected positions.
Shirley Blumberg, Founding Partner of KPMB Architects, is widely recognized for her commitment to architecture and city building. She has designed and directed a wide range of academic, cultural, corporate and housing projects. In 2013, she was appointed as a Member of the Order of Canada. .
Meg Davis, Vice President, Development – West Don Lands, Waterfront Toronto, is responsible for ensuring that development occurs within Waterfront Toronto’s sustainability framework and manages the planning, design, and construction phases of development within the West Don Lands.
David Gerofsky, President and Chief Operating Officer of Great Gulf and Chief Executive Officer of First Gulf Development Corporation. During his career, he has held leadership roles encompassing all aspects of finance, development, construction, operations, acquisitions and dispositions.

Organized under the Young Leaders Initiative of ULI Toronto as part of its mission to educate and connect Toronto’s young leaders of tomorrow through the exchange of ideas to better prepare them for the unique urban challenges Toronto will present in the future. The Urban Ideas Competition called for submissions proposing visionary ideas and design proposals to reconnect the City of Toronto with its waterfront. Entries have been received from Korea, the United States, and from across Canada from members of the public, architects, landscape architects, designers, planners, artists, students, and members of the development community.
