MAG LAB (Syria-Spain) in collaboration with Ebdaat Magazine, ALFA 301 (Spain) and Stardust* (Spain-Italy-Brazil-USA) is organizing this International architectural competition, which invites students, architects, engineers, designers and artists to continue investigating new ideas and concepts.
The design challenge is an international architectural research centre for 200 students that promotes the exchange of knowledge and experience in carrying theoretical/virtual concepts right through to production and fabrication in a laboratory setting.
Although the choice of site is open, the submissions should take into consideration the historical and social context, the existing urban fabric, issues of scale and the environment. There is no restriction to the height and form of the building, and the program is also open: suggestions for a functional program include offices, residential, parking, hotels, gardens, sports, leisure, conference centre, etc.
Registration and submission is to be done electronically on the official website at www.arcompetition.org. Deadline for registration is May 1, 2010, and the submission deadline is 5:00pm GMT on May 20, 2010.
The first-place winner will be awarded 2,000 € in addition to a one-year subscription to Ebddat Magazine 2010 and a plane ticket to Damascus, Syria to take part in the final event of ARC. Second prize is 1,500 € in addition to a one-year subscription to Ebddat. The third-place winner takes home 1,000 € in addition to a one-year subscription to Ebddat. Five honourable mention winners will receive a jury certificate along with international media publication, and the magazine subscription.
A jury of internationally recognized designers, architects, artists and researchers will review the submission and select the awarded projects. This jury will be announced in May 2010.
