The public is invited to attend an evening of presentations and discussion at the MaRS Centre Auditorium, located at 101 College Street in Toronto. As the final lecture/panel in the Ecology.Design.Synergy series put forward by OCADU, MaRS Centre and the Goethe-Institut Toronto, this event takes place on Friday, June 10 at 6:00pm, where Aga Khan award-winner Diébédo Francis Kéré will be in conversation with Geoff Cape, co-founder and Executive Director of Toronto’s Evergreen Brick Works.

Diébédo Francis Kéré is an architect from Burkina Faso who studied at the Technical University and now works in Berlin, Germany. His primary school in his home village Gando won him the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2004. Furthermore, he received the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture in 2009. He is best-known for his ongoing creative plans to build an Opera House and Festival Centre in Remdoogo in collaboration with German artist Christoph Schlingensief. The projects he has been running since 2001 as a free designer are situated worldwide, from Switzerland to India.

Kéré does not limit his efforts to architecture. He tries to provide the people of his homeland with innovative development projects; his motto is “help to self-help” because he strongly believes that only those who take part in the development processes will be able to appreciate their results and continue them.

On Friday, Kéré will engage in conversation with Geoff Cape, co-founder and Executive Director of Toronto’s Evergreen Brick Works, a charity focused on the idea of integrating nature in urban design. Cape is an internationally renowned social entrepreneur and founding Chair of the Sustainability Institute. He has been recognized as one of Canada’s “Top 40 under 40” by The Globe and Mail Report on Business in 1999 and has most recently received the Sustainable Buildings Canada Lifetime Achievement Award.

Admission is free to this event. For more information, please www.goethe.de/ins/ca/tor/prj/eds/ver/vor/en7078157v.htm, e-mail [email protected], or call 416.593.5257 x205.
