To celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA), the IES Toronto Section is marking the event by holding a Black Tie Gala at the Royal York Hotel on Saturday, February 4, 2006. The evening will be a celebration to recognize the strong lighting business in Canada and celebrate those individuals who have made significant contributions to the industry. A silent auction will take place throughout the evening and the Second City Alumni will provide the entertainment for the evening.

One of the main goals of the event is to raise funds to endow a scholarship for the Lighting Program at Ryerson University which is run through the G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education. Taught by leading lighting professionals and designers, the Certificate in Lighting Design is intended to serve many disciplines dedicated to understanding the issues surrounding quality lighting and its impact on space, economics and people.

The Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) is the recognized technical authority on illumination. For 100 years, its objective has been to communicate information on all aspects of good lighting practice to its members, to the lighting community, and to consumers, through a variety of programs, publications, and services.

The IESNA is almost 10,000 members strong. Its members work with lighting in a variety of capacities – lighting designers, architects, interior designers, government & utility personnel, engineers, contractors, manufacturers, distributors, researchers and educators – throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico – and around the world. They share a common interest in lighting, and a common desire to promote the use of the latest, most innovative lighting technologies, with a focus on judicious use of energy in all lighting applications.
