The Interior Design Show (IDS) is Canada’s largest celebration of design and the catalyst for hundreds of millions of dollars worth of design product purchases throughout the country. IDS 10 had over 48,000 attendees – 10,000 design trade professionals and 38,000 affluent design customers.
Studio North and Prototype are ideal for emerging designers, artisans and independent studios who want to network and sell to potential clients, manufacturers, trade professionals, buyers, consumers and media. IDS hosts these prestigious sections in a gallery environment on the show floor.
As an exhibitor or Studio North or Prototype, you receive enhanced marketing and are provided with the opportunity to have your work reviewed by a panel of international industry leaders and design experts. Past judges have included: designers Tom Dixon, Nipa Doshi, Arne Quinze, Gord Peteran and Patricia Urquiola.
IDS invites independent designers to submit items not currently in production, which address the theme of new ideas intended for mass production. The works selected will be exhibited together in a group display on a platform. The submission fee is $25 CDN. The cost for accepted work is $450 CDN + HST (includes submission fee).
Entry is open to independent designers and studios (no manufacturers or retailers).
The evaluation selection criteria for Studio North include: function, aesthetics, use of materials, quality and originality.
The evaluation selection criteria for Prototype include: function, aesthetics, use of materials, design innovation, market potential, suitability for mass production, and sustainability.
All submissions are juried. Applications must be formatted in a single PDF file. Applications not submitted in this format will not be considered. A maximum of three objects will be considered per application. Only one product will be chosen for presentation in Prototype and Limited Edition.
The PDF file should include: electronic images of the work; a description of the work, including dimensions, materials, function and market potential (no more than 500 words); and a company profile (no more than 500 words).
The deadline for the spring jury is May 15, 2010; the deadline for the summer jury is August 13, 2010, and the deadline for the autumn jury is October 14, 2010.
