The Laurentian Bank is inviting you to brainstorm regarding the visibility and presence of the bank’s branches on the urban landscape. Designers are asked to generate ideas and concepts for an innovative, original and adaptable way to identify, characterize and distinguish the buildings in a variety of environments by a means of a distinctive exterior identity.
This initiative will help the Laurentian Bank be easily recognized and stand out from its competitors, which include financial institutions, retail businesses and residential buildings. The main challenge is to create an exterior identity that does not employ the same language or conventions as typical commercial signage. The Laurentian Bank does not want designers to recycle existing signage, logos or typography. The solution lies somewhere between architecture and object, and may take the form of an architectural or artistic element that is added to or, more specifically, adapted to the Bank’s various types of branches in Quebec.
When the competition closes, a minimum of three designers (first, second and third prizes) will be awarded cash prizes of $10,000, $7,500 and $5,000 respectively. Other participants may also receive special mentions.
The competition is open to all professionals and students across Canada in the following disciplines: arts, architecture, landscape architecture, design, industrial design, graphic design, engineering, advertising or any other field whose members could continue to the creative process, individually or as part of a group.
The entry form, program details and terms and conditions of the ideas competition can be downloaded at www.phd-architecture.com. Proposals must be submitted by 5:00pm on Thursday, May 12, 2005 to the office of Philippe Drolet, Professional Consultant:
