In recognition of his notable contribution to the arts, award-winning architect Frank Gehry will receive an honorary doctorate degree of fine arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago during commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 22. Gehry has established himself as one of the most contemporary American architects with his open, curving and bold style. His work has become internationally renowned with public and private buildings in America, Europe and Asia. Gehry’s unique choices for structures and materials have delivered new ideas to the fields of architecture and furniture design. Raised in Toronto, Canada, Gehry moved with his family in 1947 to Los Angeles. Seven years later he received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Southern California. He is design principal for the firm Frank O. Gehry and Associates, which he established in 1962.
