Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada, will present the insignia of Companion of the Order of Canada to Frank Gehry next week during a ceremony to take place at Rideau Hall in Ottawa. An official statement from the office of the Governor General states that since the early 1960s, Mr. Gehry has produced an innovative body of work out of an established practice in Los Angeles. His avant-garde buildings, responsive to modern technologies and lifestyles, which have transformed urban landscapes all over the world. The Order of Canada was established in 1967 to recognize outstanding achievement and service in various fields of human endeavour and it is Canada’s highest honour for lifetime achievement. Three levels of membership are bestowed, which include Companion, Office and Member and which honour people whose accomplishments vary in degree in scope.
