A subdivision in Waterloo, Ontario will feature R-2000 homes with solar power collectors as an option for homebuyers. Buyers are encouraged to upgrade to a Solar Home featuring R-2000 technology, combined with a grid-tied solar electric system. The upgrade allows homeowners to generate between 25-75% of their home’s electrical needs from the sun. Every certified R-2000 home has better air quality and consumes about half the energy of a comparable-sized house with conventional construction. R-2000 homes exceed the minimum Ontario Building Code standards and incorporate quality construction backed by a government-regulated independent quality assurance process and warranty.
