by Canadian Architect

The Toronto Waterfront Revitalization Corporation(TWRC) is set to unveil its short-list of five submissions by the world’s leading urban and architectural design teams for a revitalized central Toronto waterfront. Construction of the concepts from the winning design is set to begin in fall 2006.

A public forum will be held on Monday, May 15 from 6:30pm 9:00pm at the Allen Lambert Galleria in BCE Place, where all five teams will present their proposals to TWRC, stakeholders and Torontonians. The designs will remain on display in BCE Place for a two-week public exhibit as well as at other public locations throughout the GTA.

A winner will be selected on May 31 from the five teams that include representatives from Canada, the US, UK, Holland, Spain and Germany to deliver a conceptual master plan for the Central Waterfront Esplanade and Boulevard. It will provide continuous public access across the central waterfront and create a bold and innovative waterfront identity. The five teams are: Foster and Partners and Atelier Dreiseitl; Stan Allen Architects and Sarah Whiting and Ron Witte Architects; Tod Williams Billie Tsien and Martnez Lapena-Torres Architects; West 8 and du Toit Allsopp Hillier; and Snhetta, Sasaki Associates, nARCHITECTS, Weisz + Yoes Architecture, H3, Balmori Associates and Halcrow Yolles HPA.
