Taking place from November 15 to 17, 2007 in Saskatoon, this forum will bring together leading artists, designers, curators, and civic administrators with extensive experience in public art commissions, to discuss the future of public art in Saskatoon, and experiences with public art in other cities. Events are scheduled to take place at the Mendel Art Gallery, TCU Place, and at various art sites in the city.
Speakers will include Bill Pechet, an interdisciplinary designer from Vancouver; Micah Lexier, an artist originally from Winnipeg and now living in New York; Bryan Newson, City of Vancouver Public Art Program Manager; Tricia Wasney, Manager of Public Art, Winnipeg Arts Council; Karen Henry, a Vancouver curator; and Ellen Moffat, Saskatoon artist and curator.
exposed will also launch ART LAB, the City of Saskatoon’s new public art program and website. ART LAB will host free guided bus and walking tours to public art sites during the event. Tours will include new works such as Launch Time and Prairie Wind, and Aneco, a curated exhibition of site-specific public works by Saskatchewan and other Canadian artists throughout Saskatoon.

7:30pm: Keynote Address
The keynote address will be given by Vancouver-based interdisciplinary designer Bill Pechet of Pechet and Robb Studio at the Mendel Art Gallery Auditorium, located at 950 Spadina Crescent. Admission is free.

10:00am-4:30pm: Public Forum: Working With and Within the City
This event will bring together artists, curators and civic administrators with extensive experience in public art commissions to present and to discuss various aspects of new public art. Presentations will focus on conceptual, social and pragmatic practices and processes of public art, site-specificity and sited art. Artists, curators and civic administrators will discuss their experiences within the civic structure and the development of new public art policies and new models for working within the public space. The Roundtable will focus on experiences, successful models, and innovative forms of new public art for civic urban spaces. This event takes place at TCU Place in Centennial Hall C, located at 35 22nd Street East. Admission is free.
10:00am-2:30pm: Administrators and Curators
This session includes the participation of Tricia Wasney, Manager of Public Art, Winnipeg Arts Council; Bryan Newson, Public Art Program Manager, City of Vancouver; Karen Henry, Curator (Vancouver); and Ellen Moffat, Artist/Curator (Saskatoon).
1:30pm-2:45pm: The Public Artists Experience
Presentations will be given by artist Micah Lexier, (Toronto/New York City) and interdisciplinary designer Bill Pechet (Vancouver).
3:00pm-4:30pm: Roundtable: What New Public Art Is And Can Be
The roundtable will be moderated by Joan Borsa of the Department of Women & Gender Studies at the University of Saskatchewan, and features contributions from Tricia Wasney, Bryan Newson, Karen Henry, Micah Lexier, Bill Pechet and Ellen Moffat.
