On November 7, 2014, join the Design Exchange for its annual fundraiser at what promises to be the most pulsating and vibrant design affair of the year. DX Intersection Rise Up takes its cue from the fall exhibition Politics of Fashion I Fashion of Politics by embracing positive protest culture and celebrating activism, creativity and the power of community. With that in mind, DX is thrilled to announce this year’s awardee: MAC Cosmetics co-founder Frank Toskan. While serving at the helm of the company, Toskan propelled the brand as a powerful communication tool for social change. Inspired by design and creativity as communication vehicles, DXI will offer an immersive journey created by the city’s most celebrated and emerging designers and artists. Expect interactive installations and delectable experiences with creativity exploding at every corner and on all three floors of the museum.
Each year, the Design Exchange celebrates one Canadian who has energized design in multiple disciplines with his/her outstanding talent and innovative vision. Previous awardees include Bruce Mau, Joe Mimran + Kimberley Newport Mimran, Byron + Dexter Peart, Karim + Hani Rashid and Douglas Coupland.
This year, DXI is proud to honour Frank Toskan as a creative wunderkind and true emblem of positive protest culture. Toskan co-founded MAC Cosmetics more than 30 years ago in Toronto and transformed the cosmetics industry with his bold and magnificent taste. Toskan was the driving force behind the opening of some 300 stores worldwide in just 15 years and MAC Cosmetics represents one of Canada’s most successful business stories.
In 2012, Toskan was honoured by the International AIDS Conference for fundraising $250 million for numerous HIV/AIDS causes through the MAC AIDS Fund, an initiative established in 1994. The company’s revolutionary Viva Glam campaigns, each featuring a limited advertising campaign supported by iconic celebrities from RuPaul, Lil Kim, Sir Elton John, Lady Gaga and Rihanna, showcase the brand’s commitment to using creativity for the common good and highlights how design can make a positive impact.
VIP/sponsor cocktail tickets are $1,200; individual tickets are $175; DX member tickets are $150; a ticket package of 10 is $1,575; and a DX members’ package of 10 is $1,350.
