Designing the 21st-Century Street Competition

Sponsored by Transportation Alternatives, this international competition seeks schemes that redesign the intersection of 9th Street and 4th Avenue in Brooklyn, New York, with new conceptual and physical approaches to planning healthy, safe, and sustainable streets.

Cash prizes totalling $12,000 will be distributed as follows: $6,000 first prize; $4,000 second prize; and $2,000 third prize.

The jury is comprised of Jan Gehl, Alex Washburn, Michelle de la Uz, Sam Schwartz, Andy Wiley-Schwartz, David Burney, Karen Lee, Brad Downey, Leon Reid IV and Joan Byron.

The registration deadline is July 18, 2008, followed by a submission deadline of August 18, 2008. An entry fee of $30 for individuals and teams applies but student and non-profit scholarships are available.
