Ron Arad is one of the most influential designers of our time. His constant experimentation with the possibilities of materials such as steel, aluminum and polyamide and his radical reconception of the form and structure of furniture has put him at the forefront of contemporary design.

Arad speaks on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at the Design Exchange in Toronto. Doors open at 5:00pm for a book signing, and the talk will follow at 5:30pm.

Born in Tel Aviv in 1951, educated at the Jerusalem Academy of Art and later at the Architectural Association in London, Arad is an industrial designer, graphic designer and architect. Alongside his limited-edition studio work, Arad designs for many leading international companies including Kartell, Vitra, Moroso, Fiam, Driade, Alessi, Cappellini, Cassina, WMF and Magis among others. He has also designed a number of public art pieces, most recently the Vortext in Seoul, Korea, and the Kesher Sculpture at Tel Aviv University. His architectural projects include National Design Museum in Holon, Israel (2010); Y’s (Yohji Yamamoto) agship store in Roppongi Hills, Tokyo, Japan (2003); Hotel Duomo in Rimini, Italy (2006); Maserati Headquarters Showroom in Italy (2003); the Selfridges Technology Hall in London (2001); and many others.

Arad and his work have been celebrated in the world’s most influential cultural institutions including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Centre Pompidou, de Pury & Luxembourg and Galerie der Moderne in Munich. He has also been published in close to a dozen books.
