The Central Society of Architects invites architects from Argentina and abroad, members of architectural associations or registered in the premises registration boards in Architecture and Urbanism from all to over the world, to submit to their proposals for the International Design Competition for the restoration and new uses of the former Central Buenos Aires Post Office building and outline for the plan of its urban environment. Listed as a national monument, it is to house the Cultural Bicentennial Centers.
The competition is anonymous and will be held in two stages. The stage involves registration through the website, and will allow architects to browse through photographs, along with written information on the building and its surroundings. The second stage involves the actual design submission.
First prize is $78,000; second prize is $27,000; third prize is $14,000; and three mentions of $4,000 each will be distributed. There will also be a maximum of five honourary mentions.
The Stage 1 registration deadline is April 21, 2006, with June 23, 2006 being the Stage 2 registration deadline. Winners will be announced on September 25, 2006.
